They can be tasked with watching the home while their keeper is away to ward off any ill intent like thieves and bothersome creatures or beings. Gargoyles are protectors and can help ward off curses, hexes and the like when they are directed towards their keeper. They are highly loyal to one keeper at a time and dare anyone who means harm their keeper while they're around.
